The government offers some of the best resources for starting and running your small business, if you can find where to go! Below are government sources for everything from grants to regulatory information and from U.S. statistics to trademark applications.

Small Biz Resources

Small Business Administration (SBA) SBA programs, field offices, business development services, government contracting opportunities, and more. 

SBA's Programs of Financial Assistance  SBA finance assistance programs as well as additional information on financing your business and procuring grants.

U.S. Chamber of Commerce  Represents more than 3 million business and organizations of every size, sector and region - 96% are small businesses with 100 or fewer employees - site includes information on training, policies and general assistance to small businesses. 

US Export Assistance Center Trade, marketing and financial assistance to established small and mid-sized businesses. Aimed at companies new to exporting or those that have some export experience and want to increase market presence
Small Biz Advising

U.S. Business Advisor  Information and news on financial, labor, regulatory, trade and other issues affecting businesses. 

SCORE Service Corps of Retired Executives  Free online counseling by SCORE volunteers associated with the US Small Business Administration.

Patents and Trademarks

US Patent and Trademark Office  Information about legal issues with patents and trademarks. It also includes links to related issues.

Business Conduct

Better Business Bureau  News, alerts, databases and other programs with intent of maintaining the highest ethical relationship between businesses and the public.

Public Company Info

Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Small business information on capital formation and the federal securities laws.
